I'm not the kind of person who needs to be hit with water from 14 different angles to say I had an adequate shower, and I don't have a pathological need to feel every square inch of my skin deluged in water simultaneously (uh... take a bath?). I've never fallen in love with a shower head, and when I've had shower heads available that did the swirlies or the pulsies or the steam or what-not, I never used those features. To me, most of the plain jane shower heads I've experienced in my life provided perfectly adequate showers. However, a few years ago, I got interested in saving water, and since then I've bought and installed on my own homes several different low-flow shower heads, including the Oxygenics Skin Care 1.5 gpm showerhead, Oxygenics Body Spa 2.0 gpm handheld, the no-name hardware store 2.0 gpm showerheads, and this Niagara Earth Massage 1.25 gpm showerhead. This Niagara 1.25 gpm showerhead is the best of the bunch, and better than most plain... I started out with the Niagara 1.5gpm showerhead, at the time i wasn't aware they had a 1.25gpm head as well. Out of curiosity i ordered the 1.25 head to see if i can save a bit more while still having a comfortable shower experience. I figured i'd save 2.5 gallons on each 10 min long shower, which if you factor in a family household; can add up to a savings of a few hundred gallons a year. Compared to the 1.5gpm head, i actually like this new one better. The stream is a bit more thinner and it feels like there's more pressure behind it. I find it wakes me up in the morning, with a refreshing sting like feeling on the skin. The ring of water does leave a large gap in the middle, more so then the 1.5 head version. But it really isn't all that bad, and far from a deal breaker. I also found that this shower head rinses out my hair better, because of the more pressurized stream. At the price and gpm rating, this showerhead can't be beat. Even from switching from the 1.5 to the... I needed to reduce the flow of my water in an effort to put off replacing the hot water heater that I'd already adjusted the temperature on...and still couldn't get a hot shower for longer than 10 minutes. This does the trick. It was easy to install and no tape/special tools required aside from the correct size wrench. The three settings are nice, but I like a high pressure shower so really only one works for me. I wouldn't say the water pressure is amazing, as some other reviews say, but it is decent. (That may vary from location to location though.) I wouldn't mind it a bit stronger. I've had a nice long 20 minute shower this morning and couldn't be happier about that so mission accomplished. One note--this showerhead may be good for small children just starting to take their own showers. Some children are afraid of the shower/used to baths and on one of the settings it is basically like a sprinkle so that may help get them used to it. |
